[EDPR/1290/EIRI] J.C. 9952

INTRODUCTION

Nuts and Bolts are most commonly used items in the family of industrial  fasteners and their demand is fast increasing due  to expansion of industries in the country.  Bolt is a piece of metal rod  whose  one end is upset and at the other  end  threading  is done.  Nut  is  a device which rolls on bolt  threads.  In  nuts, internal  threading  is done while bolts  bear  external  thread. Screw, demonstrate their true merit in the movements, assembly etc,  of wooden components. Screws are most popular as fasteners which assemble, or join parts together to be made into a complete unit.

Nuts and Bolts are available in various sizes and shapes. The kind of the classification of bolts and nuts may broadly be those made by the cold and hot process plant (i.e. cold formed & not formed fasteners). Bolts are manufactured by forging (upsetting) and extrusion methods mainly.

Nuts and Bolts are used by the existing industries, repair workshops etc. The sale of these items is increasing day-by-day. As such there is a very good scope for establishment of  a  few small  scale units for the manufacture of nuts and  bolts. Nuts are  plain, square or hexagonal in shape with flat chambered,  or washer  crowned  top.   Like  bolts,  nuts  may  be  finished  or unfinished,  and may be regular or heavy type.  Nuts for  special purposes  includes,  jam nuts, used as locking  devices  to  keep regular nuts from loosening, castellated and slotted nuts, having a  square  or round bottom slot to accommodate a  cotter  pin  or safety  wire  which holds them in place, used in  automotive  and allied  fields  on  operating machinery wing  and  knurled  nuts, designed  for use.  Where the nut is tightened or  loosened  with finger  pressure  only, and nuts for use on  track  bolts,  stove bolts and machine bolts..
