During the last few decades and especially after the emergence of Rauvolfia serpentina as the “Wonder Drug of India”, there is a steady effort in and outside the country to screen Ayurvedic drugs for their therapeutic values. And in such efforts of evaluation with a definite outlook of finding specificity of drug action, modern pharmacological techniques are being assiduously employed. Of course, according to the philosophy and methodology of modern medicine such techniques have to be employed. But quite pertinently a question may be raised as to whether such techniques are quite exhaustive to substantiate the full scope of therapeutic value of a drug from the Ayurvedic point of view.
