INTRODUCTION
Aluminium Hydroxide Gel is also known as Alumina Gel hydrous aluminium oxide having chemical formula Al2O3.H2O. The chemical Aluminium Hydroxide Gel I.P. Grade is extra pure material conforming pharmaceutical grade requirement and is manufactured by pharmaceutical firms for medicinal use. Aluminium hydroxide gel should not be misunderstood with the chemical auminatrihydrate chemical formula Al2O3.3H2O or Al (OH)3 also known as aluminium hydroxide, aluminium hydrate, hydrated alumina and hydrate, hydrate alumina and hydrated aluminium oxide. Aluminium hydroxide gel is a white gelatinous precipitate. Sp.Gr. about 2.4. It is insoluble in water and alcohol soluble in acid and alkali. It is nontoxic and noncombustible. Whereas alumina trihydrate is white crystalline powder, balls or granules. Sp.Gr.2.42, soluble in mineral acids and caustic soda, also noncombustible. Main use of alumina rehydrate is for glass, grimes, iron free aluminium and aluminium salts, manufacture of activated alumina, base for organic lakes. It is available in finely divided form (0.1-0.6 microns) used for rubber reinforcing agent, paper, coating, fitter, cosmetics whereas main uses of aluminium hydroxide gel are for Dying mordant, water purification, water medium, chemicals (aluminium salts). Lubricating composition manufacture of glass, sizing paper, ceramic glaze. Aluminium Hydroxide Gel I.P. Grade is used for medicine particularly treating complications of acidity inside stomach. Alumina trihydrate is derived from hoaxed. The are is dissolved in strong caustic and aluminium hydroxide precipitated from the sodium aluminate solution by neutralization (as with carbon dioxide) or by auto precipitation (Bayer Process). Aluminium hydroxide gel is generally derived by treating a solution of aluminium sulfate or chloride with caustic soda, sodium carbonate or ammonia by precipitation from sodium aluminate solution by seeding or acidifying (carbon dioxide is commonly used). Aluminium Hydroxide Gel is patronised for administration in medicine with various formulation and forms, Tablets, liquid formulation & pastes.
