INTRODUCTION
Socks, baniyans and underwear’s are the products of hosiery industry. The farm hosiery includes all types of knitted, footwear’s, underwear’s, outerwear and head wears.
All conscious people wearing shoes, socks are must for them. Socks can be manufactured from various types of yarns like wool, silk, manmade fibre etc. A sock manufactured from cotton yarn is the cheapest and can be used throughout the year. But now a day’s nylon socks are replacing gradually the cotton socks and panty the woolen socks. These have many advantages over cotton socks such as longer life, better comfort and easy wash ability. Socks in the hosiery items are most important and highly salable item. The socks industry is the smallest are among all the hosiery industries and involves very little investment.
The socks can be manufactured manually as well as electrically operated machine persons who have very little investment can start this industry as a cottage industry. Moreover all the required machinery and raw material necessary setting up such an industries are indigenously available.
The socks knitting industry operated by hand machines are covered under cottage type. The following is table to indicate various sizes of socks.
