Detailed Project Report on zirconium silicate powder

ZIRCONIUM SILICATE POWDER [CODE NO 3646]

Zircon as (zirconium silicate) (ZrSi4) occurs as an accessory mineral in silica-rich igneous rocks, particularly granite, nepheline, Dyenite and pegmatic and also in metamorphic and sedimentary rocks, zircon is rarely found in the rocks is economically mineable concentration, weathering and erosion of these rocks frees the zircon grains and the combined action of rivers, seas and wind concentrate the heavier minerals by natural gravitation processes in place deposits, deltan and ocean beaches. as an ore, zircon is recovered from unconsolidated sands in beach deposits. Large heavy mineral sands deposits are being extensively mined. Some zircon is obtained from the processing of Athabasca tar sands.

These heavy mineral sands deposits are mined to obtain the titanium minerals rutile, leucoxene and ilmenite to supply the titanium metal and titanium oxide pigment industries. Depending on the deposits composition and current market pricing, zircon and other minerals and viable byproducts. Australia and south Africa are major zircon exporters.

Zirconium Silicate (Zircon) (Zr SiO4 or ZrO2-SiO2) Occurs in nature as the mineral zircon.

A natural Zirconium silicate represents 60-70% of all Zirconium used. Other, more complex silicates are also found in nature.

Zirconium  silicate (zircon) may be  brown, grey, red or  even colourless in appearance.

Zirconium  Silicate   is  quite in at and  is  resistant  to acids, aqua regia and  cold alkali solutions.

Zirconium   Silicate  coustitutes  itself  as   an   eminent refractory in glass and steel industries.

In  foundries  as a basic mould material, the  high  thermal conductinty of zircon gives higher cooling rates than other mould materials.

Zircon`s  high  melting point, low co-efficient  of  thermal expansion,  and  chemical stability make it the  preferred  mould facing, particularly in precision casting.

Alloyed   A2 (alumina-zirconia) abrasives are made from  60-90%  alumina-zirconia  grains  produced by  fusing  alumina  with baddelcyite,  or Zirconium derived from zircon, in  elective  are furnaces. The addition of Zirconia toughens the alumina, reducing its brittleness.

The abrasives have particular application in the grinding of steel  and  steel alloys because of high strengh,  hardness,  and surface  crystal sharpness, resulting in fast grinding  and  long wheel life.

Zircon is added to glass for television tubes because of its x-ray absorption properties and its ability to toughen the glass.

Need to procure Licence While Collecting Sand While  collecting  the  sand  from the  river  side,  it  is essential   to   procure  the  licence  from  the   Ministry   of Environment.
