INTRODUCTION
There are several leading wire brands in India and the industry is expanding with every new day. Manufacturing varied varieties of quality wires at nominal prices, the Indian cabling industry has reached new heights. The wire and cable industry in India has certainly flourished since the last two decades. The major reason for this growth can be attributed to the recent developments in the power and infrastructure segments. Although, there has been growth in the cabling industry, it has been much steep as only about 14% of organized players are a part of the Indian cabling market, while the remaining 35% are still occupied by the unorganized players.
Experts say that the only aspect where the Indian wiring industry lacks compared to others in the world is research. Although, the industry is volume driven, experts say that the companies need to understand the importance of research and development. They say that the resources invested towards research shouldn’t be counted as a waste of money as new theories and improvisation in the existing products can make the company earn more benefits in return.
Essential power cables used for transmission and distribution purposes consist of conductors stranded from plain high conductive annealed copper wires insulated with oil-impregnated paper tapes. The single or multicore assemble in them enclosed in an impermeable metal sheath and where necessary depending on installation conditions, the assembly is protected by steel armourings.
Modern cable technology is still pursuing the above ideal, but today many other additional factors have also to be considered, as indicated in the following notes (dealing with oil impregnated paper insulated cables), which are divided into three main parts, the Ist dealing with cable design, the second part outlines modern manufacturing methods and the third section discusses installation requirements.
Copper wire is an essential material for motor and transformer winding. Copper wire is available in different gauges (42 gauge to 18 gauge). The gauge of the Copper wire depends upon the winding required for the specific motor or transformer.
There is a heavy market for copper wire in motor and transformer manufacture and the copper is also used in rewinding of motors and transformers. Whatever the motor may be the winding for copper wire is done.
PVC insulated cables & wires are the ultimate medium for the distribution of electricity. The PVC cables are used for the power distribution in all types of electric wiring, control cables, telephone cables and signaling in Railways. The PVC cable has mostly replaced VIR and CTS cable in domestic as well as industrial wiring due to its long life, moisture resistance etc.
The individual insulated conductors are covered with PVC coatings providing additional electrical and mechanical protection. The cables are suitable for use in sub-station, distribution systems, industrial installation, house wiring and street lighting, etc.
