EMPTY HARD GELATINE CAPSULES
The Rs 500-crore domestic gelatin capsule industry is expected to witness a sustained demand in the next 5-6 years. However, long-term demand will be determined by the kind of drug delivery systems, according to industry observers.
CP Deodhar, technical advisor for ACG Worldwide, a leading gelatin capsule manufacturer, said that capsules of the drugs used in India are made locally and the supply is enough to meet the demand. Some new drugs made to be exported and need to comply with US Food & Drug Administration norms, opt for imported capsules. Currently, there are about 120 automatic capsule machines in the country, which have a capacity to make 2,000 capsules per minute. About 70% of the machines are indigenous.
