INTRODUCTION
The phthalates are used principally as plasticizer for resins (Plastics) elastom are and organic coatings. They may be generally characterised as high boiling, colourless, odourless, stable oily liquids which when mixed intimately with organic polymers, imperts softness and flexibility to the finished products. Small amount of Di-methyl phthalates is used in the insect repellent formulation IMP is used for the manufacture of nitrocellulose lacquers but also as explosives. As general plasticizers these phthalates are competing with the triocresylic phosphate, alkyl adipates and sebacates, plant can be so designed that any one of the phthalates esters can be made in the same equipment and thus giving the flexibility of the production.
The thermoplastic, which can be reprocessed even after being brought to solid stage from plastic stage, like polyethylene, PVC, Polystyrene, polyamides, cellulosics, acrylics acetates etc. are hard brittle and poor in mechanical properties where as when mixed with suitable plasticizers can be processed mire conveniently be process like extrusion, injection and blow moulding, just as fillers are absolutely essential for a thermosetting moulding powders, plasticizers are indispensable for thermoplastics particularly cellulosics.
Thus for plastic material exhibit flexibility resilicency and melt, flow, it must be plasticizers either with in itself or by the addition of an added substance which is known as plasticizers. Without film and other flexible form of plastics.
Among plasticizers, phthalates which are phthalic acid esters of boiling alcohol are the minor product of application and form nearly 70% of total plasticizers consumption. There are many types of phthalates which are used for this purposes, however there reprocessing is the same. The process scheme envisages the manufacture of dimethyl phthalates (IMP) in small scale. The same setup of equipment may be utilized for the manufacture of other, as necessary.
The Government of India has reserved the manufacture of DMP in small scale sector only to secure small scale manufactures, so, all the facilities regarding raw material procurement, marketability levies and taxes concessions etc. are available to this unit also.
All the plant & Machinery are also indigenously available therefore; there is no hurdle in setting up this unit.
