Calcium is one of the essential minerals in poultry nutrition. In addition to its vital functions as the main component of bone structure and participation in acid-base balance and enzymatic system, calcium is the also the main component of the eggshell. It is estimated that each egg contains 2.2g of calcium, present mainly in the eggshell. Calcium supplementation is required in animal feeds, as most consist of grains and its by-products, which have very low calcium. Diets containing calcium below the nutritional requirements of layers impair performance and egg quality. On the other hand, excessive dietary calcium can reduce feed intake, cause soft faeces and increase chalky deposits in the eggshell. Birds absorb a higher percentage of calcium when it is supplemented in larger particles, suggesting that the longer retention time of larger limestone particles in the gizzard make calcium more available during the period of eggshell formation.
Calcium supplementation influences eggshell quality. Calcium has several functions in metabolism and it is the main component of the eggshell.
Limestone (Calcite) is a natural mineral with self–limiting properties. It is known with a chemical formula CaCO3. It is a sustainable eco–friendly mineral with the effect of very low carbon footprint. It is safe to use in multiple of applications due to non–corrosive and non–hazardous benefits. Ground Calcium Carbonate (GCC) is found to have major source of applications in animal feeds, adhesives and sealants, glass and ceramics, cement, plastics and rubber, paints & coatings, pulp and paper, pharmaceutical, and agriculture among others. The calcite product in the market is available in form of powder, granules, and slurry among others.
The source of the calcium in the poultry feed is calcite marble granules which contribute 3-5% of poultry feed. The marble granules are produced by processing the lime stone. Granulation is the process in which the calcite powder is made to adhere to form larger using water as binding agent.
The ground calcium carbonate is granulated to produce the required product. Calcite Marble Granules are available in various sizes ranging from 8 meshes up to 4 mm.
Feed Grade Calcium Carbonate is inexpensive, non-toxic and easily available with a wide range of applications. Calcium carbonate is a key mineral for egg-shell formation and increases milk formation. It acts as a Calcium supplement for cattle and other ruminants that helps in bone growth and strength.
The global poultry feed market is expected to account for $157,715. million by 2023, growing at a CAGR of 6.9% from 2019 to 2023.
It is intended to prepare a Feasibility Report to install a Marble Granules (Poultry Feed) production facility with an installed capacity of 84000 Tons / Year as a Green Field Project.
