Graphene may not be the sole material in graphene-based batteries, but they are responsible for the electrodes and the coating on such electrodes depending on the battery. Although the traditional lithium-ion battery is the most popular battery that incorporates graphene, graphene can be used in many types of batteries to enhance the batteries' efficiencies, stability, and cycle/discharge cycle rates. 

According to AZo Nano, graphene-based batteries are the most widely developed energy storage device. One of the largest electronics companies, Samsung, commercially produces graphene-based batteries alongside lesser-known battery manufacturers.

What are the benefits of graphene in batteries? Processing graphene into a rechargeable battery’s electrodes improves its energy capacity and charge rate. Graphene’s superior electrical conductivity, mechanical flexibility, chemical stability, and high surface area allow such advantages. 

Graphene is a layer of carbon atoms that are connected in a pattern from a two-dimensional hexagonal structure. Graphene, known as the miracle material, is so popular because of its countless wonderful properties. Its tensile strength is 100 times that of steel, it is a powerful conductor of electrical and thermal energy, extremely light, and very flexible. As graphene has made of one atom layer, it has a very large surface area and also is chemically stable, and also is known as an environmentally friendly material. So it has naturally been considered a suitable electrode alternative in battery applications.

In graphene battery industries, one atom layer of graphene is processed to the so-called graphene balls which are used as protective layers on the electrode of the battery, and this is what allows for an increase in the charging capacity and charging speed. A graphene battery can be light, durable, and suitable for high-capacity energy storage, as well as shorten charging times. The addition of graphene can increase the battery capacity of smart phones to 5000-6000 mAh, previously only seen on larger devices such as tablets. Nowadays, graphene-based batteries are becoming more successful than graphite ones at a fast speed. Graphene batteries are close to sprouting technology. The electrode density of graphene batteries is increased, their cycle times are faster, and they can hold the charge longer so the battery’s lifespan is also improved.

According to Samsung, graphene balls can increase mobile battery capacity by up to 45% and charge speed by up to 500%. The graphene ball battery can fully charge the battery in 12 minutes compared to a full charge in 1 hour. Of course, the charging time for a battery that has a higher capacity is a little longer
