POULTRY FEED

[EIRI/EDPR/0793] J.C.:9408

INTRODUCTION

The manufacture of the concentrated poultry feeds is a hi-Tech area; For the formulation of concentrate a veterinary doctor having extensive field experience is a must; to prevent any disaster in form of large scale mortality which may be due to imbalance in disease preventive medicines and vitamins added in the concentrate formulated.

The proposed project is for manufacture of concentrated poultry feeds in pellet form and powder form. This is the most advanced and modern method of feeding poultry. The advantages of pelleted feed enriched with controlled doze of vitamin and disease preventive medicines are that these enable the poultry farmers to achieve assured and (rated) growth right from chick stage to Broiler. There is minimum wastage which made it more economical.

Poultry feeding is currently based on a well developed knowledge of the principles of poultry nutrition that has been put in to extensive practice. Chickens as is the case with all higher animals, have much more complex nutrient needs. More than 40 specific chemical compounds or chemical elements are nutrients that need to the present in the diet to support life growth and reproduction. These nutrients can be divided into six classes. Somewhat according to their function and chemical nature: (1) Carbohydrates (2) Fats (3) Proteins (4) Vitamins (5) minerals (6) Water. The carbohydrates, fats are required mainly as sources of energy in the body. Energy is needed to maintain body temperature, essential body functions, for body movement, for chemical reactions involved in synthesis of tissue and the elimination of wastes.

Rations must be prepared to furnish the nutrients needed by poultry to grow and lay eggs. These rations are composed of ingredients whose components can be digested end obsorbed by poultry so that the nutrients they contain can be useful. In general the major sources of nutrition in poultry feeds are grains, oil seed meals, meat packing lay products, fishmeals and lay products of the processing of grains for consumption, such as wheat, rice and corn-milling lay products. In addition, many other products available in lesser quantities are useful. Yeast distillery by products, milk processing lay products are useful in poultry ration.

PRODUCT DESCRIPTION:

Poultry feed compounds are fully covered and depend on agro industries. As is well-known agriculture occupies a pivotal role in Indian economy it contributes about 46% of the national income provides livelihood to more than 70% of people, produces raw materials for large sector of the industry, supplies the bulk of wage goods of the non-agricultural sector and accounts for over 70% of the export trade directly as well as indirectly. It also exercised a strong influence on other allied sectors of the economy particularly the transport, the marketing, the processing and the financing aspects of agricultural production. According to an estimate nearly 60% of the commodity, consumption of household, consists of agricultural products or manufacture based principally on agricultural raw material.

India's tropical and humid climate as also rich soil are responsible for production of a wide range food and valuable commercial crops. About 75% of the cultivated land is used for food crops and the rest for cash crops.

Feed represents about 70% of the total cost of egg production and 55% of the cost of  broiler production. Therefore efficiency in feeding is one of the key factors for successful poultry production. But very few poultry farmers devote a comparable proportion of their managerial time to ensure that the feed supplies for the birds are satisfactory. State Government have taken up scheme to encourage poultry farming on as extensive scale in the rural and semi urban area. A well balanced poultry feed must be made available to the birds to raise their egg laying potential.
